The Eco-Dirt Buffet was a pop-up exhibition co-curated by Natalie Loveless and Jessie Beier that featured a cross-section of folks — artists, historians, theorists, performers, and multi-species makers — who experiment with multi-species responses to anthropogenic, or human-induced, climate change and its coming provocations. The exhibition was structured as a 'buffet' of durational performances that the audience was invited to explore using this menu.
Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens’ Green Wedding to the Earth in
2008 launched what the artists now consider to be their life’s work. It was there that they began using the concept of ‘ecosexuality’ to frame their art, theory, practice and activism, which is premised upon the idea of imagining the earth as a multi-gendered lover. Through their ecosexual performances, lectures, walking tours, workshops, visual art, symposia, manifesto, films and other creative projects, Sprinkle and Stephens posit a radical relationship with environmentalism that is non-hetero-normative, and non-human centered. This week of events will be a call for queer communities, environmental activists, edgy artists, sex radicals, and others to come together and to challenge our ideas of what human sexuality and environmental activism can be.

A colloquium featuring the works-in-progress of students from two University of Alberta courses, “Art in the Anthropocene” (ARTH 456/556) and “Decolonizing Anthropocene Discourse” (SOC 403/580), who are exploring various questions in relation to what has been termed ‘the anthropocene’. Working in the space between art, performance, and sociology, students will share their various questions, discoveries and creations through a series of short presentations followed by a discussion led by Dr. Natalie Loveless and Dr. Sourayan Mookerjea.
A double feature film screening of “The Yes Men Fix the World” (2009) and “The Yes Men are Revolting” (2015). Artist-activists’ The Yes Men operate under the mission statement that lies can expose truth.

New Maternalisms Redux is the third and last in the New Maternalisms exhibition series (following Toronto 2012 and Santiago 2014). It features five artists drawn from the first two exhibitions: Lenka Clayton, Jess Dobkin, Alejandra Herrera, Courtney Kessel, & Jill Miller.

An interdisciplinary think-tank building on recent scholarship in the critical discourse of research-creation to examine the multiple dimensions of artistic research as it is conceptualized in the Canadian university today.
The Researching Research-Creation symposium investigates various configurations of research-creation, practice-led research, practice-based research, and/or artistic research in the context of the development of doctoral programs for artist-scholars.
The Research-Creation Symposium is sponsored by the Canada Research Chair in Design Studies, and the Kule Institute for Advanced Study, the Department of Art and Design, and Arts Based Research Studio at the University of Alberta.
